Amendment 1 – Freedom of Religion, Press, Expression. Ratified 12/15/1791. Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
Why is it so hard to get this thought their skulls. I think it’s because we have been programmed to “get along”. Not that getting along is a bad thing but if you think about it, is that who we really are? If we all just went along to get along, would we really have ever came to be a nation. Would we have ever freed entire Peoples from the bounds of slavery? Would we have ever invented ANYTHING? Would I be typing on a computer or even know a written language?
I’ve heard many discussions on whether “PC” is just another way to control our thoughts and words. I’ve seen the cartoons and read some of the blog posts. They usually make valid and very important points that need to be gotten across and I won’t knock any of them. Instead I want you to think about your own life and the things you enjoy EVERY DAY and whether they would have come along without some type of disagreement being processed to the end result.
Would you have toilet paper or just a corn cob? I mean the hand and a creek nearby was the norm for quite some time if you really go WAY BACK. Thank God for paper. Speaking of paper, would you like to still be hammering away at stones with another stone?
Look at the past. People used to imprison others for questioning the “Church”, a king or some popular train of thought. The whole flat/round earth comes to mind. We would not have Alternating Current electricity if Tesla had just went along with Edison’s Direct Current designs and we would have several thousand pounds of batteries in our homes or just stuck with natural gas for everything.
Disagreeing with people is part of life. Being able to do that and still have your life is a freedom most people on Gods’ big ole earth just don’t enjoy to the extent we do here in America, if at all. Draw a cartoon image of Muhammad and publish it in a newspaper and see how your life changes. ( Subject for another time.)
Why do we as Americans need a hyphen (-american) in the description of ourselves as Americans. African-American, Jewish-American, Muslim-American, or you name it, it’s out there. Most people who claim the names have never been to the countries they refer to much less were they born there. Why is it sooooooo important for you to be characterized by anything other than just being you? Hi, my name is “insert name”.
Find somewhere in the Constitution where it says it’s illegal to offend someone. Get back to me.
As Americans, we are, by nature people who disagree and it’s AWESOME. We have accomplished more in the short time we’ve been a nation than most nations ever did in thousands of years because we have disagreed on how to do things. Being an American is special all in itself.
Stop trying to get along because it’s PC and start getting together to find a way to get this nation back on track. Even if can’t get together, do it on your own. It’s one of the few places in the world where the individual can still be in charge of their own lives. (For now)
